why i’m running

My name is Josh Binda. I’m an engineer, the son of refugees, a community leader and activist, and the youngest BIPOC elected official in Washington State history. My parents won a lottery to escape war-torn Liberia and come to America before I was born. I’ve made it my life’s mission to not take that lucky break for granted. I was one of the area’s lead Black Lives Matter organizers during 2020 and beat out a 20-year incumbent when I ran for Lynwood City Council in 2021 at just 21 years old. Since then, I have championed increasing community resources for mental health, scholarships for youth and seniors, increasing access for recreational activities, and adding millions of dollars to the Lynwood budget for Parks and Recreation.

I was one of the youngest aerospace mechanics ever hired by Boeing, as well as the youngest Aerospace Engineer at Blue Origin. I left a cushy six-figure job in order to run for office and serve my community. I’m now running for Congress because I want to work FOR the people of Washington’s Second Congressional District and make sure that ALL Americans have access to comprehensive healthcare, affordable housing, as well as free, quality education. I also KNOW that our future depends on us having engaged, caring, and hardworking young people involved in politics at the national level. Everyday, members of Congress make decisions that will impact humanity’s future for generations to come. The voices of young people -young people just like me- need to be part of that decision making.
